The Wagram-region was created by prevailing glacial winds that blew fine particles of agglomerated clay, sand and lime – loess – on to the prehistoric bedrock of the Danube. These loess layers are up to 20 metres in depth. This soil structure enables the roots of the vines to delve down deep and absorb water and nutrients mineral-rich subsoils. Irrigation and mineral fertilisers are therefore not necessary. These factors, coupled with the influence of the Pannonian climate and diurnal temperature variation between day and night, create the perfect conditions for unique terroir wines.
